Fatherhood: Grace on Display

June 16, 2019 Speaker: Lee Davis

Scripture: Luke 15:11–32

Fatherhood: Grace on Display
Luke 15:11-32

1. Though we deserve rejection, God our Father graciously welcomes us with eager love (vss. 11-24).

Genesis 3

2. Though we deserve condemnation, Christ our brother covers our shame (vss. 25-32).

Zechariah 3:1-7That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.”- Hebrews 2:11a–12(ESV)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” - Hebrews 2:11a–12(ESV)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. - Ephesians 1:3–6(ESV)

3. Implications for Fatherhood (and Most Other Relationships)

Nurture rhythms of repentance and forgiveness. Nothing feels quite as good as reconciliation.

Develop a spirit of welcoming gentleness. Sin separates, but the Gospel restores and heals.
